Made for the commemoration of the first ever hot air balloon flight which took place at Versailles in front of King louis XVI on the 19th of September 1782.
“At long last, man could leave the surface of the earth below.”
The ring set with rubies and rose cut diamonds depicts brothers Joseph and Étienne Montgolfier piloting their balloon each grasping onto a rope at either side.
The ring is part of only a small handful of examples known to exist.
