Gold and Diamond Eternity Band
Gold and Diamond Eternity Band
A very rare and substantial gold and diamond eternity band.
The ring probably Dutch or Italian circa 1630 - 1650.
Set with Peruzzi cut diamonds, it is possibly the only known example of this type with this cut of diamond from the period.
The Peruzzi cut was first created by Vincenzo Peruzzi in Venice during the first half of the 17th century and slowly introduced to the lapidary workshops in Holland, Antwerp and London.
~ Rijksmuseum “Until recently, this type of ring was known only from 17th century paintings, including Rembrandts 1634 portrait of Oopjen Coppit. It may have been an engagement ring, and set with diamonds all around the band, three of which have been lost. “
For a very similar set with table cut diamonds see the Rijks Museum Amsterdam, Object number BK-2018-139
