18th century French miniature portrait set in a later 19th century gold ring.
Capturing a sudden moment in time, within a painting is not the easiest thing to do, and on a miniature scale adds to those odds. This fine miniature portrait probably portrays a young girl whilst looking at the portrait together with the artists use of colour for the background, you can imagine as though she had just finished bathing and emerging from a steamy bathroom. Whatever is portrayed here it remains subjective to the observer.
